MIJ’s ‘Intelligent Flexible Numeric Display (i-FND)’

MIJ, a medical device company headquartered in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, has developed the world’s first technology that allows multiple displays to be connected in series and controlled simultaneously: the Intelligent Flexible Numeric Display (i-FND).

The i-FND, developed by MIJ (CEO: Jin-Sook Heo), is a next-generation technology that surpasses the structural limitations of conventional 7-segment numeric displays (FND). With just two wires, multiple displays can be connected in series and controlled simultaneously. This innovation dramatically reduces the need for complex control circuits, numerous connecting lines, and a large number of components, which were major drawbacks of traditional FNDs.

i-FND goes beyond a simple hardware component; it is an intelligent display platform that integrates software algorithms and driving drivers. It can operate in static drive mode without a microcontroller, offering excellent visibility and stability without flicker, while also reducing visual fatigue for users.

This technology is considered an innovation with potential impact on overall electronic system design and architecture, rather than just product-level improvement. MIJ plans to accelerate its global market entry by developing and internalizing key semiconductor components such as decoders, drivers, and controller ICs.

The i-FND is entirely designed, manufactured, and assembled within Gangwon Province, positioning it as a leading technology for creating an advanced component industry cluster linked to the local industrial ecosystem. MIJ intends to promote the development of related component industries and establish a collaborative ecosystem centered in Gangwon Province.

With this technological development, MIJ is expected to lead new trends in the global display market. Thanks to its scalability across various industries including semiconductors, electronics, healthcare, and automotive, the i-FND is seen as a turning point for ushering in a new era of intelligent displays.

Moreover, it is anticipated to act as a catalyst for establishing a semiconductor industrial base in Gangwon Province, which has recently designated semiconductors as a strategic industry and is actively supporting related policies and investments. MIJ aims to play a key role in fostering a regional semiconductor ecosystem and advancing high-tech industrialization.

A MIJ representative stated, “i-FND goes beyond simple numeric displays to provide users with intuitive and efficient information. We are committed to continuous R&D and global collaboration to ensure this technology becomes a standard in the global display industry.”
